Ode to the Pomegranate

Melograno.  I cannot think of a better fruit to use as our symbol.  The pomegranate is the symbol of fertility (there are four of us); it is feminine (and so are we); it is bittersweet (aren't we all?); it is hard on the outside and complex and juicy on the inside (our personal metaphor).  Its origins are Arab.  Arguably, so are ours.



But most importantly, it is the tree at the far end of the backyard that we all grew up in; we planted it some twenty years ago, and it remains, dutifully producing the red ornaments every fall, and every fall it attracts those ugly bugs that look like they're doing unmentionable things to each other (or is that just on our tree)?

Its bittersweet flavor will serve as allegory to life as a Palma.  Oh, there will be plenty of pomegranate recipes here.  But first, a brief history:
